This new DISH series is going to highlight dishes that I can’t get out of my head or really wish I could easily eat again.
If you are passionate about Sea Urchin you must try the crudo at ESCA in midtown Manhattan.
I stopped in for lunch and didn’t have a problem getting a table. Dinner is a different story and books quickly.
The restaurant is known for its extensive list of crudo, but also features a variety of classic Italian dishes.
I had never eaten Sea Urchin from its shell before, plus it was my first Maine Sea Urchin. Divine. If you’re in Manhattan, eat one for me! It might have been the best $20 I spent while visiting NYC.
May your journey be your muse,
Rachel

I did not know one could eat a sea urchin! What does it taste like?

Hi Kristin! It’s difficult to describe. Very rich. It’s not particularly “fishy” but tastes of the sea. Nice linger on the palette. I eat it often at sushi restaurants, where it is called Uni. Right out of the shell with a bit of olive oil was a new experience for me. When you give it a try (Japanese or Italian), I suggest a quality restaurant. I’m addicted!
